ENTRY PLANNING · U.S. ORDINARY-PASSPORT TRAVELERS
U.S. citizens visiting Uzbekistan for tourism or business can currently stay visa-free for up to 30 days. The rule took effect on 1 January 2026. Visa-free travel does not remove passport, accommodation-registration, transit or border checks.
This short-stay rule is confirmed by Uzbekistan’s Tourism Committee, Presidential Decree UP-203 of 3 November 2025 and the U.S. Department of State’s Uzbekistan guidance.
Sources checked 12 October 2026. This is general travel-planning information, not legal or immigration advice. Confirm your individual circumstances with the competent authorities and your carrier before paying for non-changeable travel and again before departure.
Who this guide covers
This guide is written for travelers using an ordinary U.S. passport for a short tourist visit. A U.S. residence permit or U.S. visa is not the same as U.S. citizenship. Travelers using a different passport should start with our general visa and entry checklist and the rules for their nationality.
Do not use the tourist short-stay rule as permission to work, study, reside in the country or carry out another activity requiring separate authorization. If you have Uzbek nationality, previous Uzbek citizenship, a special travel document or another unusual circumstance, ask the competent embassy or consulate which rules apply before you travel.
The checks that still matter
| Topic | What to do |
|---|---|
| Length of stay | Plan your departure within the permitted period; ask the authority to clarify any uncertain date calculation. |
| Passport | Check validity, blank pages, damage and the exact passport used on tickets. |
| Accommodation | Confirm who will register each stay and how you will receive proof. |
| Transit | Check every connecting country separately, including an airport change or overnight stop. |
| Special circumstances | Seek individual guidance for dual nationality, children, non-tourist activity or a longer stay. |
Passport validity
The U.S. Department of State currently specifies a passport valid for three months beyond the allowed period of stay and one blank page for the entry stamp. This wording should not be casually shortened to “three months from arrival.” Source: State Department, valid passport requirements.
Check the complete itinerary with the airline, since transit countries may apply different rules. If your passport is close to expiry, damaged, newly replaced or contains a different name from a booking, resolve that before departure. A travel agent cannot waive a carrier’s document checks or a border authority’s decision.
Accommodation registration: arrange it promptly
Official sources use different deadline wording. The State Department says registration is required within three days and should remain continuous. Uzbekistan’s government-services guidance describes three working days, with registration handled by accommodation providers or a private host as applicable. Our practical recommendation is to arrange registration with the accommodation on arrival or check-in, rather than waiting for a disputed deadline. Ask for confirmation, retain the records and check the arrangement again when you change address. For camping, private stays, unusual accommodation or a gap between stays, obtain current instructions from the responsible local authority. This guide does not decide which exception or counting rule applies to you.
Staying longer than 30 days
If your plans exceed the short visa-free period, obtain advice on the appropriate visa or permission before travel. Do not build an itinerary around an assumed extension or repeated border crossings. Explain your nationality, travel document, purpose and intended dates to the competent consular office. Ask for written clarification when the rule is unclear. Keep the response with your trip documents, while remembering that final admission remains an official decision.
Traveling with children or crossing a land border
Check the documentation for every child, especially when one parent is absent or a child travels with another adult. Do not assume the adults’ visa-free status answers consent or relationship-document questions. Likewise, a side trip to another Central Asian country needs its own entry assessment and a verified operating border crossing.
Keep accommodation contacts, your route, onward-travel details and relevant documents accessible. For a straightforward first visit, compare our 7-day itinerary or 10-day itinerary, then check the entry requirements for each person traveling.
Before you confirm the trip
- Use the official sources linked above, not an old visa-service advertisement.
- Check your passport and intended arrival and departure dates.
- Confirm transit requirements and any separate cross-border excursion.
- Ask each accommodation who handles registration.
- Recheck after any change to your passport, route or travel purpose.
You do not need to send passport scans to make an initial itinerary enquiry. Give your travel dates, party size and passport nationalities first; sensitive documents should only be supplied through an agreed secure process when actually needed.
